The Hex Waves emerged from the muddy banks of the Heathcote river in the winter of 2015. They were three people from different places and times, trying to make a magical venn diagram in sound somewhere in the unlikely overlapping of Chris Isaak, Burzum, and The Cure. Some folk called them ‘goth’, but they always thought of what they were doing more specifically as ‘swamp rock’… but less Louisiana and more Woolston. The shitty industrial swamps of Christchurch. The Hex Waves tried recording many times but always found their live sound hard to capture, and so hence have only really ever released lo-fi b-grade, live 4-track recordings from their band room.
