Christchurch cult post-quake pop-up indie hedonists’ Sabine Wojnar were a freak experiment that occurred between 2014-16, gracing stages just 5 times. However, in their limited stage time, they built a diverse following from indie kids to flat earthers. Previously only released as a bedroom recording project, they now present for the first time a studio recorded 5 track EP posthumously.
Peppermint Slice was recorded in 2016 at the now indemand studio that drummer Ryan Chin operates but the session had been shelved ever since. At one point, it was thought that the files were lost altogether during a harddrive upgrade at the studio. Found again recently, in pristine condition, Sabine Wojnar was presented with the opportunity to release the EP as a split with Wellington slickers Zero Cool. Record label Melted Ice Cream recognised the sect status of Sabine and condoned the unique collaboration, releasing a limited edition of 69 Zero Cool/Sabine Wojnar split tapes.
An undoubtedly unique sound that is hard to describe, Sabine Wojnar has been characterised as ‘ahead of their time’, ‘performance art’, and ‘punishing’. Those of you lucky enough to witness live performances will likely attest to this. Now, you can relive the magic.
